Bags Packed, Ready To Go!

Bags Packed, Ready To Go!

Delighted to welcome a group of energetic, young volunteers for Summer School - the first for the children at our little school, high up in the Himalayas!

Four young volunteers join us – respectively from University of British Columbia, Vancouver; Obra D Tompkins High School, Katy, Texas; ATLAS Skill Tech University, Mumbai and Rajghat Beasant School, Varanasi for an intense 2-week internship program at a remote village near Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.

It has taken weeks of hard work to curate this summer school - deliberately and thoroughly planning the best use of their time and that of the children.?We started with identifying the obvious gaps in classroom education at our rural school, collating the areas that need supplementing through external interventions and finally charting out the day-to-day activities – meeting and discussing, without fail, every week for the last 3 months!

Now with the bags packed – we're excited to start on Monday and conduct 25 children through Science workshops (covering experiments not usually done in classrooms), an English module (befriending books, cultivating reading habits through library activities), Garhwal Awareness Campaign (instilling a sense of pride about where they belong) and a Music Camp (to create a small school band leading to a stageshow).

There are infinite opportunities to plug the gaps in rural education and working with underprivileged children is always an enlightening experience.?Starting here, we wish to be able to offer very meaningful, consciously-curated internship opportunities, THAT SOLVE REAL PROBLEMS - for more pre-university/university level children in the future.?

Stay plugged in for more updates from the beautiful hills!
