1692 - Salem Witch Trials begin in Salem, Massachusetts. Three young girls were first accused of witchcraft including: Sarah Good, Sarah Osborne, and Tituba, a West Indian slave. They all suffered unexplainable fits and spoke gibberish. When traditional medicine and prayers failed to cure them, witchcraft was suggested as the cause, and the hunt began for more witches.?

1797 - Bank of England issues first £1 note. Their headquarters have been on Threadneedle Street since 1734, 63 years before the £1 note.?
