BAFSA - British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association
BAFSA's objectives include providing authoritative information on the benefits of sprinkler systems & how they work
Many residential buildings are designed using BS 9991 because it offers fire safety design solutions that are attractive to developers and flat owners alike. This presentation will first introduce BS 9991, its place in the regulatory landscape and why it is used by fire safety designers of residential buildings.
It will then set out the significant changes for the 2024 edition before focussing on incentives to fit sprinklers in BS 9991, identifying those that are new and where BS 9991 could lead to sprinklers being fitted in buildings not as high as the 11 m floor threshold in Approved Document B.
It will also highlight design guidance references in BS 9991 to BS 9251 and EN 12845 and discuss the removal of water mist as an option in BS 9991.
