Bad News Sells Newspapers
At the end of a panel discussion I was recently on, ?I overheard a comment that disturbed me.?"That I was being extremely hard on Relocation Management Companies (RMC).”? So I asked myself, was I indeed? ??I thought about that comment, and it bothered me since I always think of myself as a true advocate to all mobility supplier partners.?I am calling myself out here! Maybe I was! As I dug deeper what I realized is that most panel discussions address downsides as to what is not going well and how to improve. ?We look for issues even if they may not be significant when you take into account the bigger picture of challenges we face today in the mobility industry.??Sure, talking about issues sell more newspapers.?After all, how interesting is a discussion on "everything is going just dandy?" ??For sure if you look hard enough there are always issues and room for improvement. Yes, we would love to see electronic scannable hhg inventory sheets, RMC’s provide unlimited customized reporting, etc. ??But in the big picture of the challenges being faced in our industry today, ?how important are these other issues??
?Beginning in January 2022, ?we saw relocation volume peak at the highest levels ever and expected to continue through the summer season.??With that being the case, I will still go out on the limb in saying that most Corporate clients would agree that their relocation expectations are being met during these challenging times.?Let’s not spend time on talking about insignificant issues because they get in the way of productivity.?Instead, as we go through these trying times in the mobility industry, ?we should be a partner and recognize the amazing service being provided by all of our supplier partners.
HHG movers have been working diligently and, in my opinion, doing extremely well to meet the needs of our transferees even with the shortage of drivers, cost of fuel, etc.
RMC’s have kept up with the high volume of relocations while dealing with a variety of company expectations/cultures during COVID, being short staffed because of the great resignation, etc

Lenders swamped in mortgage activity but continuing to support the mobility industry
….and it goes on and on with all mobility supplier partners.??
Let’s continue to recognize what’s going well in our industry during these challenging times even if it won’t sell more newspapers….. ??“And that’s the other side of the Coin! “

2 年Great piece Jack Jampel! I love the advocacy and spirit of "we are all in this together". The good, the better, the ugly and the bad. That is what makes this industry special and thank you for voicing partnership.
