Bad material or bad waste management?
I was coming back home and once again stumbled upon this question. I have my answer because I've lived in other countries before moving to Belfast, but I'd like you to ask yourself this question.
How can a collection system accept such a situation where small, weak bins are employed? How come a citizen does not get a fine for letting the waste bin without a lid?
This is not happening only at the consumer scale. The only large public waste bin near my house also has no lid, and all the light waste materials - mostly plastic and paper packaging - are free to be carried away by the wind.
So ask yourself again: is our problem a plastics crisis or a collection system that doesn't do the job?
