A Bad Hotel Manager?

50% of Hoteliers have left a job to?“get away from their Bad Hotel Manager.”

Today I will look at some of the most common warning signs that someone is likely to be becoming a Bad Hotel Manager. But What are these Warning Signs?

If you do not Like your current Job If someone is clearly unhappy with their work, then the Hotel Manager is more likely to be becoming a Bad Hotel Manager. They are likely to still be an unhappy and unmotivated employee who now spreads that attitude to their teams. How will a Bad Hotel Manager in-turn, hire effectively if they cannot show why working in their’ Hotel is great?

You always work just for the money, not your actual job responsibilities At many Hotels, the only way to keep getting more money and “advance” through your career is to move into Hotel Management.?But, if you are not actually excited about the prospects of becoming a Hotel Manager, when you become a Hotel Manager you are just likely to be a Bad Hotel Manager.

You do not like dealing with people Not everyone wants to spend their days helping fix other peoples’ issues, listening to the problems of others, and developing people.?If you are not excited by doing these things, then probably you should not be a Hotel Manager. This would be particularly damaging for your Hotel Team members.?Rapport, Trust and Empathy will fail to exist within your Hotel Teams.

You do not want to carry out the Hotel Manager’s duties It is easy to want to take the Hotel Manager title and keep doing lots of the “workers” tasks. Hotel Managers should set priorities and delegate tasks, but some people believe it is easy to assign all the best work to themselves. Unfortunately, for their additional money, the real duties of the Hotel Manager often need to be carried out by the Hotel Manager themselves!?

You do not enjoy Learning?No one is simply “a natural” Hotel Manager.?It takes hard work, but with effort, anyone can learn and improve at a Hotel Manager skill. Your Hotel Managers must enjoy learning new skills and developing themselves and others. Promoting anyone without this attitude will impact their Hotel business and Hotel Teams.

A Bad Hotel Manager can have a huge impact on a Hotel Worker’s well-being, their engagement and productivity within their team. A Bad Hotel Manager can ruin a Hotelier’s motivation and often even make them be afraid to come into work. Of course, a Bad Hotel Manager can also ruin Profit.
