Bad Hiring Decisions are Costly
A bad hiring decision is costly on so many levels. The front end cost $$$$ of recruiting, hiring, and onboarding a new employee is thousands of $$$$$ and growing daily. The back end costs thousands $$$$$ in lost productivity, team morale, poor customer experience, lost opportunities, and not the least of which is wasted HR administrative time.
When a person is in the wrong job or the wrong environment it ultimately results in turnover in one form or another. And here's the real kicker. Bad hiring decisions are completely avoidable because in most instances they are predictable and visible if using the right hiring assessment tools.
I'm not referring to unpreventable turnover attributed to employee exits due to life events such as moving out of town, or returning to school, or health reasons etc. Those are life changing events and are unavoidable and for the most part unpredictable. But hiring a person to do a job and failing to vet their behavioral attributes thoroughly is inexcusable.
So why are approximately 50 to 60% of employers reticent to use any form of pre-hire assessment tools. Is it because they believe they don't need them? Or is it because they don't believe they actually reduce turnover, and improve engagement? What ever their belief, the "Hiring Successfully For Dummies, PXT Select? Special Edition" will dispel these and any other ROI reservations one may have.
By the way, nobody regardless of their hiring and recruitment experience is able to discover in a traditional interview the hidden candidate data obtained from a valid assessment; much less vett the authenticity of candidate's response to their questions.
It's estimated that only 56% of businesses are using any form of pre-hire assessment tools according to a SHRM survey of 1,700 human resources professionals. Aug 22, 2022
Here's why your organization should start using a valid and reliable psychometric pre-hire assessments.
Most employee issues such as disengagement, active disengagement, poor performance, poor employee experience, and turnover are almost entirely behavioral related. It's those soft skills that were glossed over in the interview while spending 90% of the time scrutinizing technical skills. The irony to this lopsided approach is that hard skills are more easily vetted and acquired but you can't vet soft skills without a special tool, nor can you teach an employee to collaborate. and be a team player, go the extra mile for customers, internal or external, and to love their work.
In essence; vetting one's ability to do a job based on one's technical skills, and past experience is a myopic approach. Understanding the person's full range of talents, aptitudes, preferences, likes and dislikes, and comfort zones below the surface, provides insights into the person's real self. This data is pure gold because it not only predicts their future success in this job but can be repurposed for future jobs throughout their career.
How work gets done or soft skills are proving to be equally as important if not more important as hard skills; according to a recent SHRM study.

However, most bad decisions can be avoided if you know what to look for when using a powerful and reliable Job Fit assessment. An assessment that will tell you very clearly and accurately that this candidate is or is not a good fit for the job.
For example; what if three key behavioral elements of the job are "must be able to work in a team setting", "have a positive outlook and disposition" and " follow processes and procedures". These and countless other behavioral "must haves" are appearing more frequently in job posts because employers are realizing the criticality of hiring a well-rounded hard and soft skilled employee, but most have failed to equip the hiring arm of the organization with the right hiring tools.
