Bad back....

Bad back....

So you have a bad back. Now what?

Just live with it forever and hope the coffin is comfortable enough to get a good sleep?

Have all the things you find joy in slip away? Time with family, chores, hobbies, pleasure and more. Gone. Because of your "bad back"?

Have you ever said "I have a bad back" ?

Have you ever heard "I have a bad back" ?

I am not talking about legitimate skeletal misalignment, serious injuries, some bulge disc situations and more. Some people are born with or sustain issues to their back that are otherwise unavoidable and require serious medical attention. THIS IS NOT THE MAJORITY and this article is not necessarily for that portion of the population.

I am talking to you, the people out there who have nothing stopping you from having good back health.

Yes you. You know who you are. You COULD have a good back, healthy and strong and capable and more but you choose to just sit in, dwell in and be defined by having a bad back and do NOTHING about it or do not sustain efforts towards fixing it.

You out there who have no documented back health issue as articulated by a Doctor or medical professional yet still lean on it as a thing to complain about or limit you from enjoying hobbies and pleasure. Limit you from living a full life?

Your back hurts and you could: stretch, strengthen, improve movement quality, or move more, but you choose not to.

Hello, I see you.

There are significantly more people out there that can do something about there 'bad back" that choose not to than those with serious medical conditions etc.

I have been coaching for 15 years and close to 30,000 hours in addition to countless conversations with medical health care professionals, therapist and other high level coaches.

Yes, you can have a better back.

No, it is not complicated.

Yes you have to decide you don't want to deal with a bad back and how it limits your life anymore.

No, it is not complicated.

Yes it required more than one day of stretching and a plank to improve back health.

How? Here are some things that have worked for many; it is not one size fits all.

  • Do specific stretches every morning / every day.
  • Improve specific core areas in your mid-line. (Not just more sit ups, maybe stop doing sit ups to be honest)
  • Hire a coach to ensure you are moving correctly. You hire a coach for your accounting, car, teeth, blood, hair, and much more but won't for assessments of posture, hinging, bending, squatting and more? Come on. Everyone who has a good back is doing it, you should too.
  • You probably need to walk more every day.
  • A stand up desk does not solve everything.
  • Strengthen ! Learn to 'hinge', brace, carry, load, not to max reps or weight but relative to what the body can handle, under the guidance of a coach.
  • Stop using vocabulary that insist you have a bad back. That story is bunk. But it is also true if you keep telling it. Tell YOURSELF a different story. My back is getting stronger. I am doing positive things regarding improving my back. My back will get better.
  • Fix your feet.... toes, arch, splay etc. Google "The Foot Collective" and go wild.
  • Grow your glutes. If you have no butt, you have a higher susceptibility to injuries with your knee, back and more. So yeah, grow your glutes in all the ways they can grow.

There are more but that's a good start.

Essentially, stop telling yourself you have a bad back, then do nothing about it.

I do not feel sorry for you. No one does. You CAN improve your situation. We can.

I am here to help you.

Your family, friends, hobbies, joy, pleasure etc is waiting for the best version of you and hoping you will do something about your 'bad back'. A whole life of beautiful experiences awaits!
