Backups at the Canadian border
“Can I see proof of vaccination?”
That’s what truck drivers headed into Canada will hear beginning this Saturday, January 15. Drivers entering the country will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination (according to a January 10th Transportation Topics article), and it’s likely to have a strong effect on cross-border freight.
The requirements will be a two-way street. Canadian drivers entering the U.S. will be required to show proof of vaccination beginning January 22.
A recent survey of 1,200 truck drivers found that 36% of respondents had no intention of getting the vaccine. That could equate to a large chunk of shipments not making it across the border.
