Backstage Pass - September

Welcome to the latest edition of Backstage Pass!

This month was a great time for some of the team to come together at BIGSOUND. We presented six insightful workshops and panels, and had the opportunity to enjoy some of the other great sessions and music showcases.?

We also joined a group of music industry individuals and organisations in support of the referendum for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.?

We acknowledge that there are many different views on this topic, and that this discussion can be overwhelming. Please know that our Wellbeing Helpline is available to you if you need to chat to someone on 1800 959 500.

Thank you for being an ongoing supporter of the work we do for our wonderful industry, please don’t hesitate to reach out to provide feedback.?

Best wishes,

Clive Miller

CEO

Support Act has united alongside a group of music and entertainment industry individuals, organisations and businesses to acknowledge that the music we all create, perform and share on this country is inextricably connected to the oldest continuing culture on earth.?

United in this belief, together we accept the gracious invitation to all Australians in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. We support thoughtful and respectful engagement about the referendum – an opportunity to walk together toward truth-telling and recognition.

With the date fast approaching, we recommend that you take the time to educate yourself, check that you are enrolled to vote, and have healthy conversations about the importance of policies like this that impact and shape our future in Australia.

We’re incredibly proud to have launched a brand new video and portrait series, Outside In, with music photographer Jess Macc, Hustle Media and some of the industry’s leading voices. Each participant in the series is candidly interviewed by Jess about their life and personal stories regarding the highs and lows of being a part of the Australian music scene.

Artists and industry insiders from a range of genres and backgrounds whose episodes are available to watch now include Budjerah, Dale Tanner (Ocean Grove), Jamaica Moana and Yorke, along with Rolling Stone editor-in-chief, Poppy Reid. Coming up in the series, artists Tania Doko and Catherine Alcorn will be sharing their stories of life in the industry.

BIGSOUND was a wonderful opportunity to get together as an industry to celebrate upcoming artists, learn about the social issues that the industry is facing as well as the incredible innovations impacting the future of Aussie music.

AND FINALLY...

We wanted to share with you a testimonial from one of our donors.

“I love that Support Act provides an opportunity to give back to those most vulnerable working in the music industry. This has especially been close to my heart over the last few years post-COVID as our industry deals with the after effects of the pandemic.?

“I think Support Act is doing extremely important work in the industry and I love feeling that I contribute to this work in a small way.”

Caitlin Wadsworth, NSW
