Backing Up Is Hard To Do!

Backing Up Is Hard To Do!

Several months ago, I stayed up late and got my document backup act together so to speak. Last May (2019), I started a writing consultancy business, Liquid Barrier, and quickly pick up a few paying clients. And since starting the business, I thought it wouldn't be so great to call a client and inform them I’ve lost their business plan or press release. So, the first thing I did to avoid any potential client calamities was to reach out to a super tech buddy of mine to ask what type of backup method he recommended. With some hesitance, I told him in my last file backup I used a mega external hard drive--which I think I had since lost. My tech buddy suggested I use Dropbox in between laughs. He added he thought Dropbox integrated well with PCs and is fairly easy to use. And he also let me know he uploaded all his older documents to Dropbox and regularly saves his new docs there too.

Then, after providing me with his sage advice, he abruptly blurted, "I gotta go." My tech buddy always seems to be in a hurry when I ask him for technical advice! Anyway, I didn't immediately follow his advice and I tried to piece together a backup solution with another well-known cloud-based product I was using which, after some investigation, wasn’t backing up my files, outside my PC. I confirmed this after trying to access my documents from my Samsung cell and iPhone—after downloading the app to the respective devices. But after some difficulty accessing my data from my cell phones and an older PC lying around, I gave up and followed my tech buddy's advice. I installed and configured Dropbox on all my devices—and after that, easily saw all my documents.

Using Dropbox, not only could I see my documents, I could move them around with almost lightning-like speed. I dragged and dropped, and copied and pasted documents from my laptop to my new cloud-based Dropbox framework with confidence and accuracy.

The next morning, I migrated all my precious client documents to Dropbox and in doing so removed any possibility of having to make any nail-biting, palm-sweating, embarrassing calls to clients. Thanks, tech buddy!
