Back to the Wall

What do you do when you feel like you’ve got your back to the wall and no matter what you do doesn’t seem to work out, no matter how hard you try. Or what about the times you find yourself in a really terrifying situation? You’d probably do as most of us do as a last resort - you cry out to God in your hour of desperation.

If you do, then there may be a better way. You see, most people who don’t have a relationship with God are the ones that cry out to Him in desperation.

The Apostle Paul, the man responsible for writing around two thirds of the new testament, gave us an insight into how to behave when the darkest hour seems to confront us. You see, the way he would approach seemingly impossible situations, was at the time considered to be anywhere from weird to outright crazy. But whatever he did seemed to work – because he did it God’s way,

Let’s look at just of the “crazy” things Paul did as recorded in the book of Acts. In Acts 27 we read of a ship in distress with around 300 people on board. It was caught in such a severe storm that in order to save the ship the crew threw overboard the cargo, then the tackle and eventually the food. And all Paul could do to was to instruct them to “be of good cheer.”

Now can you imagine those hardened sailors on that battered, sinking ship to told to "be of good cheer"? And can you imagine what those sailors must have thought when he stated that? "Listen to that stupid preacher, he says “be of good cheer.” We've thrown everything and he’s still saying “be of good cheer." But a little while later, all were saved. None Perished.

You may feel like those sailors did right now. Your ship's going down and you want to cry out in desperation. Don't do it. Do what Paul did and “be of good cheer” - it will help you see the situation differently. And once you do, you’ll begin to move the hand of God, just as Paul did.

The second example is found in Acts 5, where Paul and Silas were prisoned for preaching and healing the sick. An angel was sent and unlocked the prison doors without the guards knowing. Not only did Paul and Silas escape – all the prisoners were freed.

Paul and Silas were then again prisoned for similar “offences” in Acts 16. This time, as they were praising God late at night, and chained in stocks, an earthquake shook the foundations. Locked doors were opened and “everyone’s chains were again unfastened.

The fact is, that when you experience a breakthrough, and God arrives on the scene on your behalf, everyone in your vicinity will get blesses. Just as all the prisoners were miraculously released on both ocaisions, your closest ones too can share in His blessing.

When God really shows up and manifests His glory, everyone receives an impartation. So cry out to God and resolve not to panic. Instead, resolve to “be of good cheer” and praise God for delivering you from your situation. And God will bring you through the storm just fine!
