Back up battery required for residential garage door openers

Back up battery required for residential garage door openers

Due to the loss of lives because some people were trapped in their garages in the fires we had in California in 2017 & 2018, effective 1 July 2019 all new residential garage door openers must have a back up battery to enable one to get out of their garages.

This new law comes at a perfect time for me. We had a power failure at my house a few weeks ago, and for the first time I was unable to activate the manual operation of my garage door. In doing the research for make the change in my house, I have found there are a few choices one can make and the costs run from $300.00 to $1,000 and the length of available power depends on the power of the battery itself. I will be making the change at my house in the next week or so and urge you to look into doing the same.
