It’s not only the pupils that are heading back to school at the moment, so am I.
The best time to capture school life seems to be at the start of the academic year when the uniforms are new and the pupils are eager to get in front of the camera. This is certainly what I found at Acle Adacamy.
The trick in capturing good photos is not trying to orchestrate them too much. Everyone knows there’s a photographer about but the key is to manoeuvre yourself into the right position while the class carries on, hopefully unaware.
Nowadays with the advancement of digital cameras and fast lenses, there is no need to set up lighting. With ever moving subjects you need to be able to shift your view point quickly if you want to catch the action.
I'm often asked how many shots I can get done in a day? The answer is as many as you can organise. When I shot the Notre Dame High School they were very organised with a shooting list of over 25 locations.
Science, music, sport, languages, whatever the subject, if you can capture the enjoyment there, you will come away with a great set of shots.
