Collaboration Towards a Common Goal

Instead of taking a piecemeal approach to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it's vital that we view them through a holistic lens. Businesses, organisations and communities can contribute to a better world by adopting a collaborative, multi-stakeholder process.

Dean Francisco Veloso elaborates on the urgency of addressing the SDGs, how sustainability-minded entrepreneurship holds the key to meeting SDG targets by 2030, and the crucial role that business schools play in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.

To Use AI Tools Smartly, Think Like a Strategist

Much of the current discourse around AI focuses on its potential to either make humans obsolete or boost our capabilities. Individuals must integrate AI into their work strategically and consider how it can affect their skills and capabilities, says Roland Berger Chaired Professor of Strategy and Organisation Design Phanish Puranam .

Whether AI merely assists, enhances or replaces certain capabilities, we must adopt a strategic approach when it comes to using AI in our daily work and be deliberate in aligning it with our goals in the knowledge economy.

Will the Shifting Economic Power Balance Topple Democracy?

Over the past decade, many academics, politicians and journalists have raised concerns about the state of democracy worldwide. INSEAD'S Rausing Chaired Professor of Economic and Business Transformation Ilian Mihov gives his take on where global democracy stands and where it’s headed in the new economic world order.

To understand the global dynamics of democracy, a quantitative measure of democracy in relation to economic power is required to fully appreciate the implications of the dynamics. Alarmingly, the data suggests that the global slide into autocracy might be unfolding at this very moment.

Negotiating Beyond Win-Win

Although the world is becoming more interconnected, we are seeing great polarisation and conflicts in many parts of the globe. In these times, negotiation and conflict management are ever more important. What we really need is not just a one-time “win”, but more constructive dialogues and sustainable negotiation strategies.

In this podcast, negotiation and organisational behaviour experts Horacio Falcao , Roderick Swaab and Eric Uhlmann break down how negotiation and conflict management can help people transform disagreement into opportunities to work together and create value.

Your Dream Job May Not Exist, and That’s Okay

The mantra “follow your passion” has long been a popular piece of career advice. But for many of us who do not know exactly what we like or want to do early on, the pursuit of a perfect career fit can lead to anxiety and distract us from amassing actual work experience.

Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour Winnie Jiang argues that finding a job you love is not the only route to attain fulfilment at work; it is perhaps more constructive and beneficial to “grow” your passion. Instead of endlessly searching for the dream job, you can carve your own path and find meaning in unexpected places through job crafting and discovery.

Paris 2024: A Model for Greener Games

With an ambitious plan to halve greenhouse gas emissions, Paris 2024 was designed for sustainability from the start. Together with her team, INSEAD alumna Georgina Grenon , who serves as Director of Sustainability of the Paris Games, looked into direct and indirect emissions from each activity associated with construction, games operations and transport.

Professors of Technology and Operations Management Atalay Atasu and Luk Van Wassenhove explain the ingredients for success. They are confident that the resulting sustainability ecosystem will not only inform future games and events, but also the decarbonisation of business and society.

The Six Dimensions of Winning Teams

Teams with clear goals, values, rules, roles and processes, backed by full individual commitment, are primed for peak performance. INSEAD’s Chaired Professor of Corporate Governance Ludo VAN DER HEYDEN and co-author Alain Goudsmet propose an extended model of the famous GRPI (goals, roles and responsibilities, process and interpersonal relations) framework.

They argue that the framework omits two essential elements: values and rules. These additions are essential for building teams that go beyond simply functioning and truly excel. This holistic approach can help teams avoid the pitfalls of unclear goals, misaligned values or poorly defined roles and processes.
