It is back to school, and screening may become part of the process for those returning to institutions.
Here in Canada, and especially in the province of Ontario, it is a process being practiced in many schools, especially for children.
Ontario
Ontario is the largest province in Canada in terms of population and the second largest in terms of land mass.
Ontario has one-third (1/3) of Canada’s total population.
The Government of Ontario has officially set up a website with school and childcare screening tools that you may access at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ .
?
What is screening?
Screening is a practice in medicine used to look for potential health problems and risks.
?
The school and childcare screening tools
Two (2) screening tools are provided by the Government of Ontario –the non - immunocompromised and the immunocompromised.
Immunocompromised means you have a weak immune system, while non-immunocompromised means your immune system is in good condition to fight infections and diseases.
?
So, what is your immune system?
Your immune system helps keep you healthy and protects you from infections, toxins, diseases, and unwanted microorganisms like fungi. It is made up of different cells, proteins, and organs in your body.

Your Health
Taking care of yourself is important and is not something to take for granted.
Based on events over the last two (2) years, taking care of yourself is even more essential.
In the last 2 years, we have had covid-19, the Omicron, other variants, and now monkeypox, etc., to deal with.
Nevertheless, taking care of our health is generally the best defence against any ailment. In addition, we may use products as necessary to assist our bodies.
In addition to exercise and fresh air needed for our well-being, our body needs six (6) essential nutrients.
?
Essential nutrients
The body needs six (6) essential nutrients: vitamins, minerals, protein, fats, carbohydrates, and water.
?
Vitamins
?
Vitamins are necessary to help boost our immune system, assist in maintaining functions in the body, such as keeping the nervous system going, and so on.
Examples of vitamins your body needs are vitamins A, B, C, D, and E.
?
Proteins
Proteins are important nutrients for our cells to function, such as developing our bones and making antibodies. ?

Fats
Good fats like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are essential for your health.
Fats help with cell growth, muscle movements, etc.
?
Minerals
Minerals are micronutrients like calcium, magnesium, iron, and selenium.
Minerals help to carry oxygen around the body, maintain your immune system, and more.
Chapter 17, Your Health, in the book – ‘Lawn Care and Your Health…’ by Leroy A. Brown, may help you to explore health and minerals further.
?
Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are sugars or starches that help to provide energy to your body. In so doing, this energy allows the cells and tissues of the body to function.
As such, tasks like maintaining the immune system, keeping your brain working correctly, and just having the energy to do stuff are part of what carbohydrates assist with.
?
Water
Water sounds simple; however, not many consume enough daily. There is the reason they say “water is life” because it is needed in everything.
Most of the human body is water, and cells, tissues, organs, etc., require water to function properly.
Water helps to lubricate joints, remove toxins from the body, take nutrients around the body, prevent constipation, and more.?
?
Getting nutrients
There are various ways to get the nutrient you need; however, I will highlight four (4) with help from the book – ‘Lawn Care and Your Health…’ by Leroy A. Brown.
?
1.
Eat more fruits and vegetables as they contain most of your body's nutrients.
?
2.
You may supplement your nutrient intake with natural and organic products such as Daily Complete.
?
3.
Drink enough water every day as water is needed to transport nutrients around your body.
?
4.
Get sunlight to help produce vitamin D naturally in your body.
