Back to the roots of Linkedin

Can we get back to the roots of Linkedin ?
I know that I start to get old. I openend my Linkedin account close to the beginning of the 3rd Millenium...
At the time, it was about connecting to people you knew, who could help you in your business, and who you were prepared to help. It was about learning from people who you didn't know, but who could contribute to what some people consider as secondary today, but which at the time was important : your business, your professional life, your fulfilment in your job.
Look at what Linkedin has become today, and it's getting worse during summer :

I'm not a boomer of age, but I must admit that I regret the good old days. When people talked without judgement. Accepted opposing ideas. Didn't do hard-selling and had a profesionnal yet personalised approach.
This short thing to say that I am probably closing down my account soon. I don't know where to go else. But maybe it doesn't matter anyway...
Have fun. But if an old, influential guy from Microsoft reads this, and if it gets him to think, then there is already progress.
Thank you for having read this post until the end !

2 年I agree with you and it has gotten considerably worse over the last 12 months or so with politics now dominating over business topics. The last week has been purely about the Finnish prime minister, at least it feels this way. Given the amount of comments a lot of people seem to have a lot of time to use unproductively. I am sure there will be a large exodus of members on this platform sooner rather than later based on what you said because the original purpose of participating has become too cumbersome, i.e. it takes too much time and resource to filter the useful contents.

2 年Well spoken Olaf. Could not agree more.

2 年Cant argue with that Olaf. On reflection though, I think it has a lot to do with how our society has changed. For example: I sat in a Cinema yesterday for the first time in ages and was dismayed at how the "kids" in the row in front of me, were constantly messaging and looking at videos on their iphones while the film ran! I don't think any of them actually watched the movie in its entirety. Social and personal selling skills are dying.
