Back In The Puppy Business
We are pleased to introduce our two new Dog Guide puppies to you –
Vegas – Black Lab Retriever Cross – being trained by Russell our GM (and Son)
Yoda – Yellow Lab – training Joyce and Don
We are into our third week and they sleep through the night and have started to whine at the door to get outside to go “Busy Busy”.
Their life right now is pretty blissful – eat, sleep poop and play. They play quite actively, and then you will look across the room and they are passed out together on one dog bed. No need for 2 as they seem to gravitate to the one the other dog is already on.
They are not yet vehicle savvy so we tend to keep them close at hand until they acknowledge the existence of motorized transport. By the end of their stay with us, they know how to avoid golf carts, cars, trucks and mowers.
And so the socializing begins. Church, liquor store, beer store, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Staples and every restaurant in town. We will visit all of these at some point – and on multiple occasions.
They are registered at Centennial Animal hospital – with the rider that when they show up on their own, they are not to get the treats that they usually get when they go fore their puppy shots.
When you meet them and they are in their green capes, please ask for permission to pet them. We always say yes – except if they are being tough to handle that day. This is a rare occasion – but it does happen.
One year from now, they will head back for formal training in one of the disciplines that the Lions Foundation offers – Seeing, Hearing, Special Skills, Autism, Seizure or Facility.
And they are always in our clubhouse causing some commotion – so you are welcome to play with them here.?

1 年Don. Proud of you for doing this. Don’t know how you have done so many. I did one for autism and it killed me to give him up after a year. I knew it was for a good cause and that he would be so door opening for someone yet it was still one of the toughest things I had to do. I don’t know how you do it as it would be easier giving up your son Andrew lol. Great work.
