If you get back pain at some point in your day, chances are this is due to staying still in one position for long hours as you work. Our bodies are designed to move! Staying still causes stiffness and pain. Here are a few ideas on how to incorporate more movement in your workday without breaking a lot of sweat.
Move around while you work.
Switch between sitting and standing as you work. See if you can take phone calls while taking a gentle walk. Get up and walk away from your desk every hour.
Move your spine sideways
Stretch sideways in your chair or on the floor.
Move your spine front-to-back
Buy a foam roller and use it to self-massage and release your upper back when it gets stiff. Lie on it for a few minutes first, then roll forward and back.
Do a spinal wave exercise like the cat-cow stretch. Gradually take your spine to its end ranges.
Move your neck
Roll your neck around to its full range of motion twice a day.
