Back to My Future at SAP
Since returning to SAP just a few weeks ago, I have felt a strong sense of renewal, both personally and professionally. I’ve been told that those of us who come back into to the SAP fold are affectionately referred to as “boomerangers.” I am happy to be one as this is an exciting time to be here – SAP is on a trajectory to becoming a true cloud company at a point in time where innovation is making the impossible possible. My return has felt like coming home, and I see so many positive changes that have taken place in the past two years.?
It was not an easy decision to leave Capital One, a phenomenal leader in the financial services space. I had the opportunity to lead an amazing, committed team of Treasury Management professionals within an incredible corporate culture. But I’m a software chick at heart – and I needed to be part of the exciting vision SAP’s Executive Board is channeling throughout the company.
In my first tour of duty at SAP, SAP Ariba and the Ariba Network team were my domains. I had the chance to learn in a variety of customer-facing and cloud roles, and my time away has given me the opportunity to build on this experience with fresh perspective and clarity. As I am settling into leading our Marketing & Solutions team for the Intelligent Spend & Business Network (ISBN) line of business, I clearly see what we can become. Working with an industry veteran like John Wookey gives me more confidence than ever before that we can leverage the immense power of the SAP Business Network to deliver solutions that align our customers’ spend decisions to their business strategies. In doing that, our Intelligent Spend solutions will meet our customers where they are and accelerate their success.?
The disruption caused by COVID-19 has reshaped not only our lives and those of our families but also the Procurement, Supply Chain and Travel functions, in both subtle and profound ways. We are recovering from an unprecedented, almost instantaneous cliff in the travel space.?We have seen supply chains strained and, in notable instances, fractured. SAP is uniquely positioned to help the world run better through cloud-based technologies that instill operational resilience and agility and extend visibility and collaboration among trading partners.
As I told my team last week, my heart is Procurement, my love is the Business Network and my mind is on Travel and Expense. And while this is all true, I readily acknowledge that I am first and foremost a wife of over twenty years, the mom to two incredible and accomplished kids, and the enabler of a very spoiled dog. My family grounds me, but they also make me want to be the best team member, leader, champion of customers and supporter of colleagues. They keep me honest as I continuously work towards the goal of balancing how and where I give energy while reminding me to keep some time for myself.
It’s an exciting journey ahead as we build our new organization. I am happily busy reacquainting myself with the business and reconnecting with SAP colleagues around the world. I can’t wait to share more about where we’re going with the Intelligent Spend Management business and the SAP Business Network in the coming weeks. It’s good to be back at SAP.
