Back In The Habit
After a summer of very little social media activity, I am back in the habit!
I tend to take the majority of August off, as I find that it is a quiet time for training requests and I get to spend more time with my three girls whilst they are off school for the summer.
It means that, come September, I have to get myself back in the social media habit. Posting, responding, being present. It's not easy after time away to bring it back to being the norm.
The other habit I'm trying to get back in to is my 5am start for the gym, after injury and summer have meant I've been more of the lying in bed habit! When I'm in the swing of this habit, I generally wake up before my alarm and jump out of bed before my head gives me chance to talk myself out of it.
This week, it feels like the alarm is going off in the middle of the night and my head is telling me to go back to sleep instead of heading to the gym. Give it a week and I know it will be back to being an easy habit to keep up.
Picking up our devices is also a habit. Sometimes we do it without thinking or for any logical reason to have that device in our hand.
So, how could you break the habit? The key lies in friction. What makes it harder for you to reach for your phone? For example, keeping it in another room would make it harder to pick up whilst you're working and will help you break the habit.
For me, September is about reducing those bad habits and picking back up the good ones! Do you have any habits you'd like to give up or take up?
How Phone Use Can Impact Your Relationships
The volume in which we use our phones can have an impact on many areas of our lives, and that includes our relationship.
In this video, I discuss how phone use can have a negative impact on your relationships:
Managing Your Child's Phone Use
Did you feel disheartened by how much time your child spent on their phone over the summer holidays?
Or maybe you'd like to go in to the new school year with the goal of helping them to reduce their phone use?
If so, you need to take a look at my Be Phone Smart course. The course is designed for both parents and their child to help manage their phone use and digital wellbeing.

What A Turn Off!!
Your Digital Wellbeing Tip of the Week
Do you sleep next to your phone? Chances are you do, as the majority of smartphone owners use their bedside table as their charging station.
Subsequently, this makes it really easy to scroll on your phone when you get in to bed, and scroll on your phone before getting out of bed in the morning. Not the best way to start and end the day!
If moving your phone out of your bedroom feels like a big step, try moving it to the other side of the room instead.
It's still in your bedroom in case someone needs to get hold of you in the night. And you can still use it as an alarm. In fact, getting up to turn off your alarm will reduce the resistance to getting up in the morning!
Will you give this tip a go?
A Summer Well Spent
I had the BEST summer with my girls this year! The joy of working for myself means I have the flexibility to spend lots of time with them in the school holidays.
We went on numerous trips, and it really was brilliant!

6 个月I was thinking of you today - I be started using Flora to set little productivity timers and I love how it blocks out other apps. I could pause it when I needed a 2-FA code too. Felt much more productive than without it ??
