Back to the future with digital twins?

Digital twins: no, we’re not talking about The Shining-style horror-movie twins, but a virtual counterpart of a real-life product.?

With virtual copies, you can gather vital information about objects from real-life data without ever having to touch your physical products. With these valuable simulations, you can see how your products perform and predict how material changes might affect them.

But how can digital twins take your company into the future? On Wednesday the 7th of July (10am BST), we’ll be hosting a free webinar where we explore all the possibilities available with digital twins.?

The event will include a Q&A with Derek Sweeney, Managing Director of CADFEM UK & Ireland, and Teresa Alberts, part of the Driving Industrial Digital Transformation team at CADFEM Group.?

What is a digital twin?

Simply put, a digital twin is a virtual model or environment. You start by fitting sensors to your real-life product and then feeding this data into a computer programme. This creates a virtual copy of your object, which you can then study.?

However, a digital twin is not a one-way process. While sensors feed data from your object to the virtual model, data gained from your digital twin can also influence how you adapt your real-life product.

As a result, digital twins can be a valuable way to gain insights into your product and find new ways to innovate and make your real-life products or processes more efficient.

In the end, a digital twin can help monitor systems, boost innovation, and even help you predict future failures or damage to your physical product.

Future prediction with digital twins

What sets digital twins apart from something like a simulation is that companies can use them to accurately predict the future. Though it sounds like something from a sci-fi film, with predictive modelling, digital twins are a way to anticipate situations like product maintenance that may be required.?

But there are more ways digital twins can help your company predict the future. This includes:

  • Identifying the consequences of process changes
  • Predicting remaining service life and scheduling product servicing accordingly
  • Making modifications before failures occur?

Want to know more??

Industries like manufacturing or engineering are best poised to take advantage of digital twins as they frequently organise large projects using complex machines. Simulation and predictive maintenance can therefore be of enormous value to these organisations.?

However, every company–no matter how big or small–can explore the possibilities of digital twins.?

Do you want to find out how digital twins could improve your business? Join our free webinar on the 7th of July. You’ll hear from the experts Derek and Teresa about how you can identify use cases for digital twins, create and refine your concepts, and scale them for real-life use.?
