Back to the bad old days? Coalition setting aside $500m for dams
What’s in their for water efficiency? Smart metering, better water management, IoT, Digital Water Networks? Come on we can do so much better with this amazing new technology that we all have access to – including direct satellite connection to upload data from remote places.
Luckily – or not? – the announcement lacks details and got decried as not much more than a thought bubble. Well, if is, and even it is not, let’s get onto our politicians. Let them hear our voice.
We don’t want new dams. We want water efficiency. We want better water management. We want water accountability. We want to know where our water goes and who uses it for what. We want a reduction in waterlosses – still at a staggering 10% and often way more. Only then should we be looking at new dams…
Bring on NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, Sigfox, online leak detection and pipeline monitoring, smart metering, water accountability, live water balances, granular visibility what’s going on in our pipes and networks.
In this day and age building new dams is like building new coal fired power stations. But then again, with the government we have, should we be surprised to get such a backward looking policy setting ignoring major innovations that are upon us right now. Innovations, that revolutionise the way we can access, distribute and manage water now and certainly within the next 2-5 years?
Who is ready to up the volume, let democracy live and add to the debate as to how we should ensure access to sufficient and reliable water at the right quality for all, and act now?

6 年Great to see funding going to water security. However has anyone looked into how new technology's and demand management and operational efficiencies on both water supplier and customer side could reduce the need for the capital expenditure. #publicmonies #bestuse #innovative #bestpractice #demand modelling
