Have you ever seen a baby learn to work? It's hard and time-consuming for both parents and babies. Sometimes, you want to just carry the baby up and move on. At other times, the baby falls and cries, giving you that look - ''Can't you just lift me up''..... But you look at the baby and cheer them up, encouraging them to get up and take the move. And then the happy day comes... The baby takes the first step and the Parents glow with Joy... and a sense of accomplishment.
Teams always have them... The babies. Be patient and consistent with them.
Let them know, that you are here to support and not to criticize. Share some weak areas about you. It shows you are human.
Co-identify areas that need growth. Let them be part of knowing their areas of need. It ensures ownership and reduces the blame game.
Set development milestones together and acknowledge each milestone achieved.
Give candid constructive feedback: It will support growth and learning better than getting someone else to do the job or complete the job even when there is a deadline to meet.
Be adamant about their growth. Don't give up even when they do.
