Baby Steps: How to Achieve The Big Goals One Step at a Time?
When I was struggling financially, I knew that in order for me break free from my poverty stricken circumstances (there were times when I was growing up that I was surviving on welfare and food stamps), it would take nothing less than relentless daily determination and an unwavering perseverance. Taking the long road was overwhelming but unfortunately necessary - I had a goal of being a millionaire by the age of 21 (when that didn't happen I was crushed and had a mini breakdown) but setting small incremental goals to achieve getting to 1 million dollars became the keystone to achieving complete financial freedom at the time. Breaking down this awe-inspiring sum into smaller achievable steps kept hope alive; step one: secure four jobs paying 250k each or if not possible ten jobs at 100k apiece then twenty jobs at 50k each until finally I could reach my final goal! It didn't happen until I turned 30!
When you look at your list of goals do you feel completely overwhelmed? Whether it’s starting a new business, getting into shape, fixing that broken tooth, or creating a better work-life balance, many of us set big goals but feel too overwhelmed to take that first step. But it doesn’t have to be that way! With the right attitude and approach, breaking down those big goals into smaller ones can make them more manageable—and help you achieve them faster than you thought possible. Let’s take a look at how taking small steps can help you reach big goals.?
The Benefits of Taking Small Steps?
Breaking down your goals into small achievable steps allows you to laser focus on one task at a time without getting overwhelmed. Knowing that each step is achievable gives you the necessary confidence, motivation and encouragement needed to keep going until your goal is reached. It also helps keep you on track by ensuring that every step is leading towards your ultimate goal.?A personal example is that I'm trying to reach a goal of learning Spanish, practicing gratitude and writing 1 article per day here. With the big goals of being fluent is Spanish i use the Duolingo app, Being in a perpetual state of gratitude everyday I use the Happydaze app and collecting all my articles to write and release a book I'm putting out on Linkedin each day.
I achieve this by doing it every single day in a row, one day at a time until I succeed.
Another major benefit of taking small steps is that it allows for flexibility as your situation changes. I like to do the test pivot, test pivot, test pivot method! Life has a way of throwing us curveballs when we least expect it, so having a plan that can be adapted quickly and easily can be helpful if something unexpected happens, because it always does trust me on this one. That way, if something unexpected comes up, all you need to do is adjust your current steps rather than scrapping the entire plan altogether.?
Do yourself a favor and watch the movie "What about Bob?" with Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss, you'll get the irony of this article.

By breaking down big goals into smaller achievable tasks we can not only make them easier to manage but we also increase our guarantees of success! Taking small steps helps reduce our anxiety levels while keeping us motivated throughout the process. Don’t worry about tackling an entire project in one go; instead focus on taking one baby step at a time and in the blink of an eye, you’ll be running a marathon and have achieved your BIG GOALS!
Just an FYI when I want to achieve something big this is the technique I've created for myself.
1. I set my end goal first
2. I deconstruct my goal in reverse to a starting point
3. I start the process of moving forward by putting it together one step at a time from the beginning
4. I don't stop until I complete my goal (slow and steady wins the race)
Whatever you do just keep moving forward...Jamison

2 年Hello Jamison yes for me working in the art world for 35 years has been a lesson in patience and each day and each project takes concentration and small steps toward achieving the end result. Some of my projects took 20 years to achieve but started with a dream filled with love. I could see the end before the result. I love how you outlined exactly how it works. I am hoping it will reach younger people to know that patience and belief in yourself and working toward your goal everyday makes perfect sense. I am a very fulfilled and happy person because of this strategy.

2 年Love this mindset. Goals are a marathon, not a sprint - and the process of getting there is usually just as worthwhile as the outcome itself. A step-by-step, balanced approach will always be more sustainable and less likely to burn you out.
