Babies are not cute.
Babies are not cute
I am doing conversation poems with my class. I decided to surprise them with one of my own for motivation. This poem is in the persona of Junior my first-born. The baby referenced is our newest that is almost two. I am really trying to empathize with Junior's position while hoping that my depiction of the situation is exaggerated. We can't be such an awful household to him, can we?
Also, babies are cute. Aren't they?
Babies are not cute
“Such heavenly, wondrous, glorious and cute creatures!”
The earth swears upon sighting them.
‘You have been brainwashed!’
I warn them.
Babies are not cute.
Babies are not earth’s mightiest creation.
First, they are fake.
They are only nice to strangers,
And to other people but me.
Those who worship their beautiful smile.
But that smile is sunshine I tell you.
It almost hypnotized me once.
Now though, I can see through their fa?ade.
That smile chars my soul.
Babies are not cute.
They cry all day.
They shove you off family selfies.
They grab and demand to own:
Your limited belongings,
Your space,
The little attention
The household had spared for you.
Babies are not cute.
