Babanango Game Reserve contributes to National and Continental Conservation of an Endangered Species
Babanango Game Reserve
Babanango Game Reserve is one of the biggest, private rewilding projects in South Africa in the last 30 years.
Babanango Game Reserve with Birdlife South Africa, recently put tracking devices on two Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius) chicks as part of a critical National research project to better understand these birds which in 2020, were uplisted to being Endangered because of a noticeable decline in Southern Africa.
The aim of the research project is to inform the conservation of this species at a National and Continental level by better understanding their movements, foraging habits and dispersal of juveniles.
These two make up 50% of the Secretarybirds that have been tagged in KZN under this research project.
