747 Engine Fire Incident in Miami
An Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 Freighter, registered N859GT, encountered an engine fire shortly after takeoff from Miami, Florida, during flight 5Y-95 to San Juan, Puerto Rico on January 18, 2024. The crew, comprising five members, declared a Mayday at approximately 2000 feet, citing a fire in the #2 engine (GEnx, inboard left hand), and made a safe emergency landing back in Miami 15 minutes post-departure. The FAA disclosed a softball-sized hole above the #2 engine, and the NTSB, alongside Boeing and General Electric, has initiated an investigation into the incident. Airlink ERJ-135LR Runway Excursion in Pemba
An Airlink Embraer ERJ-135LR, registration ZS-SJX, operating flight 4Z204 from Johannesburg-O.R. Tambo International Airport to Pemba Airport, Mozambique, experienced a runway excursion upon landing on January 18, 2024. The incident occurred during heavy rain, and the aircraft, manufactured in 2001, veered off the runway into soft ground. American Eagle E-145 Runway Incident at Rochester
An American Eagle Embraer ERJ-145LR, operated by Piedmont Airlines under Flight 5811, experienced a taxiway excursion at Rochester International Airport, NY, USA, during landing phase. The incident occurred on January 18, 2024, around 4 PM, as the aircraft, arriving from Philadelphia International Airport, slid off taxiway A2 into the snow while vacating runway 22. None of the 53 occupants, including 50 passengers and 3 crew, were injured; an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause, amid light snow conditions.
