Is Azure Stack Hub Obsolete? The Future of Microsoft Azure Stack Hub: Obsolescence and Transition

Microsoft Azure Stack Hub has been a pivotal solution for organizations seeking to extend Azure services to on-premises environments. However, as technology evolves, questions arise about the longevity of Azure Stack Hub and what alternatives Microsoft offers. we explore whether Azure Stack Hub is becoming obsolete, the replacement options available, and the implications for customers and hosting providers.

Is Azure Stack Hub Becoming Obsolete?

Azure Stack Hub is not entirely obsolete, but its role is evolving. Initially designed to bring Azure's cloud capabilities to on-premises environments, Azure Stack Hub has faced challenges such as limited scalability and specific hardware requirements. As cloud technology advances, Microsoft has introduced more versatile and scalable solutions, leading to a gradual shift away from Azure Stack Hub.?

Replacement Options from Microsoft?

Microsoft has introduced Azure Arc and Azure Stack HCI (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure) as more flexible and scalable alternatives to Azure Stack Hub:?

  1. Azure Arc: Azure Arc extends Azure management and services to any infrastructure, including on-premises, multi-cloud, and edge environments. It allows organizations to manage resources consistently across diverse environments, providing greater flexibility and scalability.?

  1. Azure Stack HCI: Azure Stack HCI is a hyper-converged infrastructure solution that integrates with Azure for hybrid cloud scenarios. It offers improved performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency compared to Azure Stack Hub.?

Implications for Customers and Hosting Providers?

For existing customers and hosting providers using Azure Stack Hub, the transition to newer solutions will involve several considerations:?

  1. Support and Maintenance: Microsoft continues to support Azure Stack Hub under its Modern Lifecycle Policy, ensuring that customers receive updates and support for the foreseeable future. However, organizations should plan for eventual migration to newer platforms.?

  1. Migration Pathways: Microsoft provides tools and guidance to facilitate the migration from Azure Stack Hub to Azure Arc or Azure Stack HCI. This transition will require careful planning to minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth migration.?

  1. Investment Protection: Organizations that have invested in Azure Stack Hub can leverage their existing infrastructure while gradually integrating Azure Arc or Azure Stack HCI. This approach allows for a phased transition, protecting investments and optimizing resource utilization.?

Azure Stack Hub in Saudi Arabia History

In Saudi Arabia, since 2018 Microsoft introduced Azure Stack Hub in collaboration with Sahara Net and 联想 . Sahara Net became the first certified product provider, while Lenovo supplied the necessary hardware. This partnership has enabled organizations across various sectors in Saudi Arabia to leverage Azure Stack Hub for their hybrid cloud computing needs, aligning with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals of digital transformation and innovation.?

At the end, while Azure Stack Hub is not immediately obsolete, its role is diminishing as Microsoft promotes more advanced and flexible solutions like Azure Arc and Azure Stack HCI. Customers and hosting providers should prepare for this transition by exploring migration options and leveraging Microsoft's support and tools. By doing so, they can ensure continued access to cutting-edge cloud capabilities and maintain a competitive edge in the evolving technology landscape.?

I believe Azure Arc & HCI are not able to replace Azure Stack Hub for Cloud Providers. No multi-tenancy nor PAYG billing.
