The Aya Initiative - August Edition

The Aya Initiative - August Edition

Our 25 ladies of the Aya Initiative have proven beyond doubt that growth, in every sense, is possible. Over the past few months, they have engaged with various mental health coaches and personal development mentors. It has been a worthwhile investment of time and resources. The women we met at the launch in April have undergone a remarkable transformation. They are now more confident, self-aware, and ready to prove their worth and change the world in the best way possible.

Mental Health and Self-Esteem Workshops

Stephanie Fleischer-Brock (MSc) , a youth mental health coach, started the month with a workshop titled "My Mind or Yours." She began with the question, “What are some things you like about your body?” This reflective exercise helped the ladies appreciate their bodies more. Stephanie emphasized the importance of developing positive thoughts about oneself, as it directly impacts mental health. Possessing a positive body image also enhances self-esteem, regardless of others’ opinions. After Stephanie’s session, one participant shared, “Boosting one's self-esteem isn't just a one-day job; it's a continuous effort to improve self-worth and be confident and comfortable with yourself.”

Building Confidence and Resilience

In her session last month, Nadine Pfeifer , a confidence coach, reminded the ladies of the power of self-confidence and inspired them to uncover their hidden strengths through resilience. Nadine emphasized the importance of finding a tribe—intentionally handpicked individuals who share similar values and aspirations. These people act as accountability partners, providing support in the journey of self-confidence building. She reaffirmed that no one should believe in us more than we believe in ourselves. Our own belief in our abilities is crucial for success and resilience in pursuing our dreams.

Personal Branding with Edward Asare

At AKAYA, we believe in holistic and well-rounded leadership. In an electrifying session, Edward Asare shared that personal branding begins in the mind. You have to envision it before working towards it. “What do you stand for? What do you want to be known for?” These are the questions to reflect on before embarking on your branding journey, as your answers differentiate you from others. Edward, an award-winning certified digital marketer, taught the ladies how to optimize their LinkedIn pages and challenged them to start a 14-day LinkedIn post-challenge, hence the hashtags #theakayachallenge.

Building a Positive Mindset with Benjamin Arthur

Our new speaker, Benjamin Arthur , founder of Lime And Honey and the force behind our captivating brand delivered a relatable presentation on building a positive mindset. He used vivid metaphors to illustrate the importance of focusing on what we can control and surrendering what we cannot. His words reminded us that sometimes, letting go is the key to unlocking new and better paths.

Upcoming Community Projects

We are excited to announce that our incredible Aya Initiative ladies will embark on their very own community projects! In five groups of five, our 25 amazing ladies will develop and pitch ideas to solve selected social issues. We eagerly anticipate their innovative ideas and initiatives. To prepare for this, they concluded July with a project building session with Winifred Opoku , a highly skilled MEP Engineer. Winifred provided practical guidance and tools to make their problem-solving ideas and presentations compelling.

The Summer Internship Programme and August Line Up

Our new Summer Internship Programme interns joined several of our sessions and are integrating well into the family. The lineup for August is currently even more exciting, featuring a blend of public speaking, mental health, academic, and financial management sessions.
