AWS re:Invent Day 0

Today was my first full day at AWS re:Invent 2022 and it has been a whirlwind of activities and announcements. My focus for this year’s re:Invent from a sessions perspective is to do a deep dive into Event Driven Architectures, Best practices for NoSQL databases, Monitoring and Observability.?

Some of the big announcements that caught my eye were:?

• Lamda SnapStart: Boosting Java lambda cold start by 10x at no extra cost.
• ENA Express: Changing the way AWS components communicate with TCP protocol by using enhancements in their Nitro architecture
• Database: Fully managed blue / green deployment for RDS

I started my day by attending a great session on Building Next Gen Apps using Event Driven Architecture. This highlighted some tried and true ways to handle the challenges that Event Driven designs can present in terms of coupling, messaging and idempotency. My next session was on Automation Using PagerDuty. This was a fireside chat with tech leaders from Netflix, Salesforce, SailPoint and Benefitfocus. This went into how companies should build a culture of We Build It? We Own It instead of the You Build It You Own It paradigm. Also using PagerDuty not just for alerting but for building analytics on various metrics regarding issues that are arising. Of course a conference won't be a conference without the Expo booths. There was a welcome reception yesterday and the Expo booths were loaded with lots of exciting new products from various vendors. I rounded out the day by attending Peter Desantis session Monday Night Live with lots of exciting announcements around compute and networking. That’s all folks for Day 0, next stop Day 1. Stay tuned.
