AWS Goodies - August 27, 2024
I find amazing things to share just about every day. I email them to myself with the subject "Goodies" and when I have enough to make a good post I write one. So here you go:
EC2 Status Checks for EBS Reachability - All Amazon EC2 Nitro instances in commercial AWS Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions now include a new status check to directly monitor the reachability of the EBS volumes connected to the instance. Read the What's New to learn more.
JAWS PANKRATION - JAWS-UG (one of the largest AWS user groups in the world, with over 60 branches in Japan) recently hosted JAWS PANKRATION 2024, a 24-hour online event with talks from JAWS-UG members, AWS Heroes, AWS Community Builders, AWS User Group Leaders, AWS employees, and more. You can review the timetable to find a session of interest and then do a web search to find the content. For example, the State of Amazon Location Service presentation by Yasunori Kiromoto was of interest to me.
In-Demand Cloud Roles - Lucy of Tech With Lucy published a new video to share the Top 5 Cloud Computing Careers for 2024, including an explanation of the day-to-day responsibilities, skills requirements, and salaries from representative job listings:

Also be sure to check out another of Lucy's recent videos, Build With Me: PartyRock AI Application, to learn how to use PartyRock to build your own AI-powered applications.
CloudFix AI Chrome Extension - New from AWS Partner CloudFix, the AI Chrome Extension gives you access to AI-powered insights and interactive guidance to help you optimize specific AWS resources. You can learn the reasoning behind the recommendations and then make informed decisions about the proposed optimizations. You will need a CloudFix Core account to use this extension; luckily you can try it for free for 3 months.
Scanning S3 Buckets - A new and very detailed post from Aviator talks about Scanning AWS S3 Buckets for Security Vulnerabilities. It introduces the open source S3Scanner app, reviews common security risks, and shows you how to put S3Scanner to use.
Generating Terraform Code From Visual Diagrams - ArchFormation lets you design your cloud architecture using a drag and drop interface, starting from scratch or from a template. The library includes AWS and Kubernetes components, all optimized and simplified, and ready to use. After you design your architecture you can generate Terraform code that is ready to deploy.
And that's all for today. Be sure to tune in to AWS OnAir this and every Friday for more of the latest and greatest AWS news!
