AWS Goodies - April 29, 2024

The weekend went by at lightning speed, as did my Monday! Here are the latest and greatest in the never-ending stream of AWS goodies to hit my inbox:

AWS Local Zones in Hawaii - Per the What's New, AWS Local Zones are now available in Honolulu, Hawaii. This brings the total to 17 metro areas in the US and 17 more globally, allowing you to deliver low-latency applications to end-users worldwide.

Cohere Command R & R+ - In a brand new blog post, my colleague Veliswa Boya announced that you can Run scalable, enterprise-grade generative AI workloads with Cohere Command R & R+. Here is the introduction to her summary of the two new models:

Command R is a scalable multilingual generative model targeting RAG and tool use to enable production-scale AI for enterprises. Command R+ is a state-of-the-art RAG-optimized model designed to tackle enterprise-grade workloads and optimize business AI applications.

United Airlines Uses Amazon Bedrock - As shared by my colleague Francessca Vasquez , United Airlines is using Bedrock to modernize Shares, its 50 year old passenger service system. Watch the new video to learn more about how Bedrock helps them to understand old tech and to read cryptic Passenger Name Records (PNRs), direct from Pam Pope Fimble :

Service Control Policy - Michael Kirchner shared a very helpful Service Control Policy (SCP). As he says:

I've spent quite some time to create an AWS service control policy (SCP) that prevents member accounts from entering long-term financial agreements or making long-term reservations.

Bedrock and Claude 3 - My colleague Haowen HUANG wrote a new blog post to teach you about Mastering Amazon Bedrock with Claude 3: Developer's Guide with Demos. In the post, Haowen reviews the members of the Claude 3 family of models, then explores three separate (and impressive) applications, each one built with Claude 3 running on Amazon Bedrock.

The first application asks Claude to simulate the role of a professional circuit board designer, taking on the task of inspecting images of boards for defects. The second application compares two models (Sonnet and Haiku) on the same task, and the third one uses Claude 3 as a programming assistant. The fourth and final demo shows you how to compare two different Claude 3 models using the Amazon Bedrock API. You can also watch this video to learn more:

Building a URL Redirector with CloudFront Functions - My colleague Danilo Poccia shared a video tutorial from Pahud (visit his channel) which walks through the use of CloudFront's Key/Value store to build a nice URL redirector:

Moderating Content with Amazon Rekognition - Suzana Melo shared a video of a talk that she recently delivered in Auckland, New Zealand.
