AWS brings generative AI to the FORMULA 1 AWS GRAND PRIX DU CANADA 2024

This year, Amazon Web Services is debuting the first-ever generative AI-inspired trophy at the FORMULA 1 AWS GRAND PRIX DU CANADA 2024 in Montreal. AWS designers and marketers collaborated with FORMULA 1 (F1) and the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center to explore trophy designs that blend F1 tradition with AWS generative AI models. Using the Amazon Titan Image Generator, AWS created hundreds of trophy concepts in minutes based on various prompts related to F1 data, race tracks, historic trophies, and more.

F1 is a data-driven sport. During a race, each team is analyzing billions of data points because each race car generates over 1.1 million data points per second from over 300 sensors. Since 2018, F1 and AWS have partnered to leverage this data and cloud technologies to transform the sport. For the trophy design, AWS drew inspiration from the F1 next-gen car project using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and AWS high performance computing to optimize aerodynamics. The winning prompt focused on the intricate airflow patterns and vortices simulated during CFD analysis.

After selecting the 2D generative AI trophy design, AWS worked with specialists to add intricate details in a 3D CAD render. This was 3D printed into a resin form, which a silversmith then used for an electroforming process to grow sterling silver around it over 72 hours. The result captures F1's elegant tradition while accelerating innovation through generative AI.
