Awkward humanoid robots
The rise of generative AI has injected new 'life' into the world of robotics. Now more and more companies are turning out advanced machines that can not just perform tasks they're programmed for, but also continuously learn by collecting data from their human colleagues and environment .
Some are likening the competition to develop humanoid robots to the space race , for others these advancements drum up concerns over potential human job losses.
Yet a video this week showing off Tesla's attempt at a humanoid robot seemed to quell these fears. Watching the human-height Optimus slowly and awkwardly place cylinders into a crate left many critics less than impressed .
This raises the question, is trying to build a very human-looking robot to complete simple tasks an expensive waste of time? Should we instead focus on utility rather than showmanship? Our reporter Ioanna Lykiardopoulou spoke with a Zurich-based startup offering businesses a practical and helpful hand. ??
