AWESOME
AWESOME is defined as causing, inducing, inspiring, exhibiting, or marked by AWE (an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration or fear). In our case I hope we inspire an overwhelming feeling of admiration or deep respect (one of the meanings of reverence) – I don’t want to be feared.
We can be AWESOME. Sometimes we refer to our key differentiators as our “special sauce” – it is why customers would choose DynaMed over other methods to deal with information overload. You create that special sauce with our special recipe – blending the right ingredients in the right order in the right way – 1 part currency, a heaping mound of clinical focus, a balanced measure of deep validity appraisal, a touch of consistency, a dab of labeling, three shakes of positioning, and a pinch of reassessment.
AWESOME is a great word. It is a word that means EXCEPTIONAL rather than just GREAT. It implies the extra something that goes beyond the expectations. If expectations are high, then it takes even more to be EXCEPTIONAL or AWESOME.
You can be AWESOME. You can create your “AWESOME sauce”. Perhaps you have been thinking about your recipe this week, thinking about how to get from GREAT to EXCEPTIONAL. Recognize that revealing an ILLUSION can inspire awe. Be SMART in how you use your time, honing and targeting your efforts for greatest impact. Be CONFIDENT in your skills, talents and opportunities or work on improving your CONFIDENCE where you need it.
There is a secret to creating a special sauce, to creating your awesome sauce. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes that I don’t use a lot: It takes years to become an overnight success. A single action is rarely awesome. But consistent, careful, continuous, compounding action creates something that is unparalleled. When someone first discovers it (when they first see the result) they are awe-struck because it is unlike anything they have seen or imagined.
But AWESOME does not last. A flashlight may have been AWESOME the first time you saw it, but then it became commonplace and you take portable electricity and light FOR GRANTED – it would take a lot for you to consider a flashlight awesome today. To be consistently AWESOME (consistently EXCEPTIONAL) we must continually raise our expectations and raise our performance.
We have to not only plan how to do it well, we have to plan how to keep doing it better. Let’s be CONSISTENTLY AWESOME!
