Awareness
I had a conversation with a business professional, whom I respect, and who gave me a nugget of wisdom today by saying,
“Awareness prevents us from doing stupid things.”
If I’m aware of the sub-zero degree weather, I won’t wear shorts outside.
If I’m aware the chocolate milkshake is 680 calories, I might choose a fruit smoothie with only 240 calories. (Or I might not.)
But I also may make more meaningful decisions like…
If I’m aware of how I’m feeling, I can better manage how I express those feelings.
If I’m aware of how others are feeling, I can take better care of choosing my words wisely.
If I’m aware of the importance people place on connection and friendship, I won’t avoid an awkward circumstance and go ahead and have that conversation, so I’m there….as a friend should be.
Awareness is where it starts. Action is next. Both are needed, but it starts by being cognizant, alert, and attentive.
What do you do to remain or become aware?

5 年Listening to understand is #1 for me. If I'm listening to respond, I'm not really listening. Second, for me, is being in the moment. Not thinking about next meeting, reading husband's text, but being in the present moment. And I have to work. At both of these. Constantly. Great post, Jaime
