Something Isn’t Right?

Preventing Suicide - A True Story

• You are at church and you see someone that sets off the “hair on the back of your neck”, that gives you that “gut feeling” that Something Isn’t Right.??

What actions should you take???

Would you take action and do something?

A friend of mine, who is a Security Expert and a Great Person, was in church one day.? He saw someone, a young man, walk into the church.? This young man had a look of sadness and despair.?

When he saw this person, he got the “hair on the back of the neck & gut feeling” that something wasn’t right.? But he didn’t know what it was.

• Was this person at the church for help?
• Was this person at the church to cause harm?

Unfortunately, today, most people, even if they see something like this, would not know what to do and subsequently would not do anything.

In this case, my friend went up to the individual and started having a conversation with him.? After a few minutes, it was evident that this young man was not there to cause harm.? It was evident that this young man was hurting.

My friend connected this young man with the Pastor at the church who was the leader of the Young Adult Ministry.? The Pastor took him aside and they started to have a conversation.

Fast forward about an hour.? The Pastor, after talking to the young man, came up to my friend and shared what he learned.??

It turned out that the young man was hurting.? Just prior to entering the church, he was considering committing Suicide.? The fact that my friend both identified that something wasn’t right AND took action and got help for the young man and might have saved a life.

We will not be able to keep our children safe if we continue down the path we have for the last 30 years, relying on our schools and teachers to be responsible for the safety of our children.? As PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS, we need to be ultimately responsible for the safety of our children.

Do you and your family have the necessary Situational Awareness Tools, Habits, Behaviors, Mindset and a Process to empower them to identify the indicators, the “Red Flags” before something happens to PREVENT it from happening??
