AWARE NI Newsletter: Mental Health Awareness Week

AWARE NI Newsletter: Mental Health Awareness Week

It's Mental Health Awareness Week (13th-19th May 2024), one of the most significant opportunities for the UK to tackle stigma and raise awareness about how YOU can look after your mental health.

We all have mental health to look after in the same way that we all have physical health to look after!

Big Give Campaign

We’ve partnered with the Big Give to DOUBLE your kindness & impact on young people's mental health across NI!

All donations* received between 14-28 May will be match-funded, allowing us to make an even greater difference through our Mood Matters Young People Programme!

Donation link goes live on Tuesday, 14 May:

A table that shows how every donation made between May 14th-28th 2024 will be doubled by Big Give. For example £5 will become £10, £10 will become £20, and £20 will become £40.

Looking After Your Mental Health

As part of our Mood Matters Young People Programme, we teach young people the knowledge and skills they can use to maintain good mental health and build resilience, enabling them to better deal with problems and challenges throughout their lives.

One of the most important aspects of this programme is the Five Ways to Wellbeing. This method is not limited by age, making it a universal tool for everyone to look after their mental health.

Let's Connect

Tip 1: The Importance of Connections

Connecting with others and communicating openly is so good for our mental health!

Speaking to a loved one about how you’re feeling or opening up to a trusted colleague can help you deal with the ups and downs of life.

Let's Be Active

Tip 2: Find an exercise you enjoy

Being more active is a great way to maintain positive mental health.

You don’t have to hit the gym every day or run a marathon, but finding an exercise you enjoy can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

Let's Take Notice

Tip 3: Take Notice and practice mindfulness

Let's Keep Learning

Tip 4: Keep Learning and try something new

We learn new things every day, and research shows that learning new things positively impacts our mental wellbeing.

Setting goals can help you feel more productive and in control, and reaching them boosts your mental wellbeing by increasing satisfaction and self-esteem.

Let's Give Back

Tip 5: The impact of giving back

Small acts of kindness are wonderful in themselves, but even better, giving to others can have a positive impact on your mental wellbeing by boosting your mood and raising your self-esteem.
