Awards, awards awards.
Is the season nearly over already? What can we learn from it?
Last night Broadcast Revolution was lucky enough to scoop up another gong for New Agency of the Year at the UK Agency Awards. You have probably heard me bang on about all the other award wins we have been lucky enough to receive this year (and if you haven't where have you been!). It struck me as an agency boss and judge for the PR Week and PRCA awards perhaps it might help to share some of the insights I have discovered through this process and from my 20 plus years experience in the sector.
There is much debate about whether entering awards matter? Should a company enter, is it worth the time and investment, what does mean if you win or not?
I have been on both sides of the fence and whilst it doesn’t effect your business if you don’t win, I believe the process of entering the awards is a great opportunity to evaluate who you are as a business, what makes you stand out and ultimately what you can do to be better. Winning has also been a huge moral boost for the team with recognition that all their hard work is starting to pay off.
The big question that I get asked all the time is, does it help from a new business point of the view? That point is harder to judge so early on. No doubt winning awards is wonderful for a company’s reputation, but what is clear if you're lucky enough to be on a shortlist or win, it absolutely helps with google search rankings and we have had many new business enquiries because ‘Googlers’ have seen we are an agency to watch.
The awards seasons also gives those involved whether an entrant or as a judge an opportunity to see amazing insight into best practice in the industry and an opportunity to mix with your peers. Whether its seeing incredible award winning work, peers to be admired, or how companies are evolving to be good corporate citizen’s focussed on diversity, charity support, innovation to name but some. The award season is what you make of it.
