Awards in the North East
October saw the Region deliver one of the most popular events celebrating professional achievements during 2018- our Annual Dinner.
Sponsored by Northumbria Roads, this year saw the NE&C move away from a venue of several years for the Crowne Plaza. Located in central Newcastle the venue astounded all who attended with an excellent atmosphere, food and hospitality. In addition, this year’s Master of Ceremonies was none other than BBC Radio Newcastle’s Alfie Joey who provided all those who attended with hilarious stories from his time in entertainment and show business.
The Regions selected charity this year was Mind which focusses specifically on mental health. The justification of this worthwhile organisation came from a heartfelt speech from our Chairman Darran Kitchener who believes that the issue of mental health is seriously underrepresented in our industry. Through this, and the generosity of all those who attended an extremely respectable total of over £1,400 was raised for worthwhile cause.
Following an extremely satisfying dinner the winners of this year’s Awards were announced which included;
* Apprentice of the Year- Erin Ruddy (Capita)
* Young Professional of the Year – Jonathan Barlow (South Tyneside Council)
* Sustainable Project of the Year- North Tyneside Safer Journeys to School (Capita/North Tyneside Council)
* Overall Project of the Year- The Northern Spire (Farrans/Sunderland City Council)
Special recognition was also given to Allan Short. Recently retired following several years of exemplary service the Region felt that there would be no finer person to honour with an extraordinary award.
As always, the Dinner could not take place without the assistance and support from our Corporate sponsors and the dedication of the local Committee. To each and every Company or individual who has contributed to the success of this evening the Region is grateful and offers its thanks.
Despite the bar being set extremely high, efforts are now underway to make 2019’s Dinner even better and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
