Pre-covid, the Golden Globes were viewed by an average of 18M people, this year's viewership reached less than half that, and the downward trend continues.?The global award show industry has to rethink its strategies in order to renew interest. With linear TV largely becoming a thing of the past, pushed by the evolving streamer landscape, major networks must adapt; and one network already has alongside a top platform.?

What does this mean????

While viewership for this year's Oscar and César Awards will serve as a major indicator,?the audience drop over the last few years for ceremonies such as the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes are causing the industry to act. In all likelihood, the abundance of award shows has also led to audience drops, as viewers are growing tired of the same ol' same ol'. Whether it be through a format shake-up or streaming partnerships, a change is needed.?

Sitting down in front of your TV with your drinks and snacks of choice in order to enjoy an award ceremony may very well be a thing of the past.?Major ceremonies like the Oscars and Césars have long served as big business opportunities for broadcast TV networks, which have been able to use the once massive ratings to charge premium advertising rates, likely now a thing of the past.?
