Unstuck: Strategies for Overcoming Plateaus
Hello,
So many people feel stuck in their lives – their career, their families, and their communities. This newsletter is inspired by a real tragic event, and we wanted to provide some concrete advice for those who may be feeling confined in their worlds.
At some point in our careers, we may find ourselves feeling stuck at work. This can be a frustrating and discouraging experience, but it's important to remember that it's a normal part of professional growth. In this newsletter, we'll explore three categories of strategies to help you overcome this feeling and move forward in your career: business research, practical know-how, and wisdom traditions.
Business Research
Identify the root cause: The first step in overcoming feeling stuck is to identify the root cause. Is it a lack of motivation, unclear goals, or a feeling of being unchallenged? Conducting internal (what is going on inside of me) and external research on your industry, job role, or organization can help you pinpoint what's causing the feeling of being stuck.
Look for new opportunities: Researching new opportunities within your organization or industry can help you find new challenges and opportunities for growth. It could be a lateral move to a new department, taking on a new project, or pursuing a new skill set. Doing this alone can help you to feel unstuck! Additionally, attend networking events and conferences to stay up-to-date on industry trends and widen your professional circle.
Seek feedback: Asking for feedback from your supervisor, colleagues, or mentors can provide insight into areas of improvement and highlight your strengths. This can help you identify areas to focus on and grow professionally. Don't forget to reciprocate by providing constructive feedback to others, as it can strengthen your relationships and boost your credibility.
Wisdom Traditions
Mindfulness: Practicing mindfulness techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing, can help reduce stress and increase focus. Try incorporating short breaks throughout your day to practice mindfulness, allowing you to recharge and refocus.
Gratitude: Focusing on what you're grateful for, even in the midst of feeling stuck, can help shift your mindset and increase positivity. Consider maintaining a gratitude journal to reflect on the positives in your life regularly.
Reflection: Taking time to reflect on your accomplishments and what you've learned can provide a sense of accomplishment and help you identify areas for growth. Schedule regular self-reflection sessions, perhaps weekly or monthly, to assess your progress and adjust your goals.
Practical Know-How
Set goals: Setting specific and measurable goals can provide direction and motivation. Identify what you want to achieve, and break it down into smaller, achievable goals. Regularly review and adjust these goals to ensure they remain relevant and inspiring.
Take on new responsibilities: Volunteering for new responsibilities or projects can provide a new challenge and help you develop new skills. It is amazing how helping others helps us! Also, consider mentoring or coaching others to share your expertise and reinforce your own understanding.
Network: Building relationships with colleagues, mentors, and other professionals in your industry can provide new perspectives, opportunities, and support. Join online forums, LinkedIn groups, or professional organizations to widen your network and exchange ideas.
In conclusion, feeling stuck at work is a normal experience, but it doesn't have to define your career or YOU. Utilizing business research, practical know-how, and wisdom traditions can help you overcome this feeling and move forward in your professional journey. Remember, growth takes time and effort, so be patient and persistent.

We are grateful for your attention to this edition of our Newsletter. This topic was decided after a tragic event that happened to someone close to me. Mental health issues can often be swept to the side, held in, or ignored, especially for the men in our society - who feel the pressure to be the support of the family.
This event really brought to light just how important the work we do is. Feeling passion and purpose through your work is so deeply needed in our society. As inflation continues to rise, working only for a paycheck can be incredibly draining and demotivating - which in turn, can really affect your mental wellbeing.
We will continue to work with and inspire our organizations to create a purposeful, passionate, and playful environment for our teams - leaving every single person feeling appreciated, valued, and know they are making a positive impact. All of us humans deserve something more.
