Avoiding ‘Too Good to Be True’ Tech Guarantees
ETB Technologies Ltd
Leading supplier of refurbished servers, storage and networking equipment. Worldwide shipping and satisfied customers.
Most businesses are now reliant on technology, to some degree. Often, if a key bit of tech fails it can have major implications and can result in a genuine crisis. That’s why, warranties should always be one of the key decision drivers when it comes to choosing a supplier. Not only do they keep customers financially protected, but they also ensure if something does go wrong, you can be confident knowing there’s a solution in place to sort it. While you might see some incredible offers out there, however, it’s important to delve a little deeper and look at what you’re really getting for your money.
I’ve seen tech experts offering some head-turning guarantees as incentives to buy their products. One that comes to mind was recently giving customers a “Five-year warranty on everything”. This sounded great and certainly succeeded in grabbing the attention of customers. But really, on closer inspection the small print told a different story. For a start, only limited components were covered. For example, if a customer’s hard drive was faulty, they would be held accountable for it – hardly the bulletproof five year ‘everything warranty’ the headline promised. It’s not surprising though. Hard drives are usually the most common part of a system to fail, which is why they’ll often only be covered by a one-year component warranty.
At ETB, we value our clients’ trust, and we know how important it is to feel reassured in the technology you’re buying. We’ll never promote unrealistic warranties that are “too good to be true” to get you through the door. Instead, we’ll always be fully transparent in what we’re offering. And, despite the misconceptions around refurbished tech, our warranties are just as robust and reliable as buying new.
Any customer who buys our products and requires a repair or replacement, will benefit from our ‘return to base’ (RTB) standard three-year warranty on configured units, such as switches and servers, and a one-year component warranty. Typically, this is standard across the full technology market. But unlike other suppliers, if a customer buys a component and configured unit together, we’ll extend the component cover from one year to three years to provide even greater peace of mind. And if a product doesn’t perform as it should, we’ll act quickly to advance replace it for free, saving our customers time and money.

We don’t like simply ticking a box when it comes to important factors like a warranty. The reason our customers keep coming back to us, is because they know their business is in safe hands.
We also know every company is different, so we’ve come up with a variety of warranties to suit everyone. On top of our standard and component warranties, we also offer on-site warranties over a one-, three- and five-year period. This means our engineering team will come to your site to fix any faulty equipment within four hours of your call being made. Depending on the level of warranty you choose, we have engineers on call 24/7 so you never need to worry about your operations being down for days (or nights) at a time.
If I could give businesses looking to make their next tech purchase one piece of advice, it would be to look beyond the warranty headlines. The level of protection a company offers you speaks volumes for the confidence it has in what its selling. And while many can talk a good game, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be aware of the small print, and always ensure you’re going with a trusted provider who, in the event of any faults or errors, really will be there to resolve the issue. ?
