Avoiding the Startup black hole
Start with the end in mind and develop a plan for getting there
3 things define the typical technology startup’s approach to product development and protection – which also explains why so many fail:
- a generally reactive approach: starting with an idea – and ending with an exit strategy,
- a gravitation toward filing patents without knowing Why, and without understanding What, Where, How and When to file,
- failure to pursue and manage strategic relationships.
When something’s not working it may be a good time to revise your thinking and change the process – starting with understanding the competitive landscape.
Once you know what your competitors are doing and and their next move, it’s a lot easier to avoid the landmines and take advantage of opportunities.
