Avoiding Responsibility

We usually ask people to step forward and take initiative. At the same time, unfortunately, each initiative is being “punished”.
Punished (professionally) – no one will support you and you will be the one who will need to be accountable for the strategy, execution, result, outcome, etc.
Punished (personally) – you might be treated as a “smart arse”. Become not comfortable for people who are used to the “old-style” approach. Being the “black swan” that sees the potential.
At the same time, for great individuals, it is a sign to “move on”. To leave the place they are in NOW. This is a sign of a lack of direction and purpose in the company (at least for those people).
At the same time, from a personal development point of view, and not looking for “excuses” (which is 65% of the time the reason to sit quietly) Lack of Initiative is a sign of bad structure and discipline. When people lack these, they struggle to set goals, stay motivated, and take initiative. Building routines, setting goals, and committing to small, consistent actions are ways to foster a sense of responsibility.
The message is simple. If you ask for your team members to have more initiative, YOU, as a Leader, MUST make sure that you ask the right people with the right tools. If those people lack in tools or knowledge, MAKE SURE you deliver everything is needed, before demanding!
