Avoid Using Quirky Job Titles

Avoid Using Quirky Job Titles

I’m not sure how you’re going to feel about this one, but I feel like it’s going to be pretty helpful to anyone that’s open to new opportunities. Using quirky job titles or headlines on LinkedIn profiles or CVs might seem fun at the moment, but they might not be helping you land a job or get the attention of hiring managers. I’ve seen all sorts in my time helping my clients with their hiring; from "problem-solving wiz accounting manager" to "tech-savvy marketing guru on a mission to scale your company."

Why do I not recommend doing this on your social media?

Well, it makes it extremely difficult for recruiters and hiring managers to find you. Since we mainly look for specific roles like “marketing manager” or “events coordinator” – it means if you’ve got some fancy creative name, you will not come up in our search. The reason for this is because most companies (and LinkedIn) use Applicant Tracking Systems to screen candidates. These systems may not recognize creative titles, filtering out your profile from potential opportunities even if you're a perfect fit skill-wise.
