Avoid the trap of the ‘best’ workout and trust your experience instead

Imagine you want to start working out

So you hop onto Google and you type: “What’s the best kind of training?” or “What’s the best type of cardio?” You check the results, do a bit of research, find one that you’d like to try and then get to it.

But there’s a problem: The answer you get is not always the best... for you

It’s not the internet’s fault

There’s no way you can use Google to search: ”What the best kind of training FOR ME?” (at least not yet)

Looking for “the best” is a trap, and it sets up for failure

Why? Because "the best" isn't always the best for you.

Instead of believing there is "one-best-choice," imagine that you have "many-right-choices." Each one will be good for you in a different kind of way. The only way to know will be to try something.

Instead, trust your history- what did you enjoy in the past?

Start by making a list of the times you felt immersed in an activity

Ask the question “When was I moving AND having fun?” List them down.

  • "I used to visit downtown with my friends- that was super fun"
  • "Each time I take up a new hobby, I get so immersed in the learning.

Walking downtown with friends == movement + fun!

Learning a new hobby (woodworking, skating, dancing) == movement + fun!

Don't get hung up 'real exercise' here. Find movement that you enjoy
