Avoid the dark swamp!

Over the holidays I tried to catch up on LinkedIn and saw the graphic above come up on my feed a few times.  I smiled and nodded my head affirmatively.   Whether you say "crossing the chasm" or "knee deep in the dark swamp of despair" makes no difference.  If you challenge the status quo, there will be a time when it challenges you back.

I reflected and then focused on the bridge in the graphic.  You do not have to enter the swamp if you have a well constructed bridge.  Family can be your bridge.  Humor can be your bridge.  Faith can be your bridge.

My bridge tends to be built on a psychological discipline of sorts.  Besides having a wonderful family bridge to use - I look to the Stoics for my bridge sometimes.

"No great thing is created suddenly." Epictetus

"It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult." Seneca

"Suck it up and drive on!" Drill Sergeant

My wish for you in 2017 is that you avoid the dark swamp.  You can do so because you control whether you ever enter it.  Use your bridge.

"Happiness is a good flow of life."  Zeno

May you have good flow in 2017!

That graphic gave me some perspective when I was transitioning into my 2d career and doubting myself. Good stuff!

Ahhh - yes, I use the term "the trough of disillusionment" with our new customers anytime we introduce a new approach with their existing systems or processes.

Creating anything new is an act of courage. You need to carry that bridge along with you so that you can extend it during foreboding times.

Agree. Life is a series of highs and lows. Avoiding the low lows needs faith , courage and perseverance .
