Avoid Costly Fines with New Required California Delivery Ledgers

Avoid Costly Fines with New Required California Delivery Ledgers

Starting April 1, 2023, Metrc began requiring all California delivery operators enter new data sets into their system to remain compliant. It’s important that all California delivery operators understand this is a completely new process that is required to remain compliant.

You must continue to report your sales to Metrc AND you must record these key data points in a new section of Metrc:

This is an important regulatory change that requires adjusted cannabis delivery operation workflows. Failure to create and report the delivery ledger may result in a?fine per each violation?of failing to accurately report a delivery (Page 24: CCR § 15047.2 "Failure to accurately enter data and information into the track and trace system. Moderate violation with a fine of $501 - $1,000").

It’s essential that delivery operators confirm that their POS is accurately reporting delivery ledgers to maintain compliance:

  1. Log in to Metrc and click "Admin" and then "Employees" in the dropdown.
  2. In the Employees area, highlight an employee and click the edit employee button, add "Sales Deliveries" and click save employee (the Metrc "owner" account will not need to do this).
  3. Click on Sales —> and in the dropdown select Retailer Deliveries (this often takes several minutes to appear after adding the permission in step 2).
  4. Do you see a list of ledgers for every delivery trip since April 1? Were they created before the driver left and do they record the actual departure time? If not, you are not following the new regulations for delivery.
  5. Next, click on Sales --> and in the dropdown select Deliveries.
  6. Do you see a list of every delivery order completed since April 1? If not, you are not following the new regulations for delivery.

If you discover that your POS system is not accurately reporting each piece of required delivery data in Metrc, you will want to manually enter your data into Metrc as a first step to avoid fines, and then consider switching to a system like Meadow that makes it easy to remain compliant with these new requirements.
